Human-Centered Communication

Closer, when it matters most.

HuLux Innovations advances human-centered communication — so connection survives what memory, illness, and time take from us.

What We Believe

Communication should adapt to people — not the other way around.

Why HuLux?

Human + Light.

Human
our center
Light
our purpose

People often ask why we chose the name HuLux. It joins two words — Human and Light — and a single conviction: that every person deserves to be seen through their humanity, not their diagnosis, age, language, or circumstance.

Too often, people are asked to adapt to systems never designed for them — in healthcare, caregiving, aging, and everyday communication. HuLux exists to reverse that. We build systems that adapt to the person.

That conviction became VOCES®, our human-centered communication framework — and from VOCES came MemoriGems®, our first flagship. MemoriGems is the beginning, not the whole.

Our Core Intellectual Property

VOCES®

The communication framework.

Voces — the Spanish word for voices — and an acronym:
Voz Orientada a la Continuidad, Emoción y Sostén.

A human-centered communication framework that guides the design of technologies, systems, and care experiences — preserving identity, continuity, and meaningful relationships by adapting communication to the individual, rather than expecting the individual to adapt to communication.

VOCES is not a product. It is the guiding design philosophy behind every product, service, research initiative, and partnership we build.

One framework. Many applications.

Voz
Relational Voice

Familiar relational voice serves as the primary emotional cue.

Continuidad
Identity Continuity

Reinforces identity, relationships, roles, and personal narrative.

Emoción
Emotional Pathways

Engages emotionally preserved pathways to support recognition.

Sostén
Support Through Ritual

Creates repeatable, meaningful rituals that sustain connection.

The VOCES Test

Six questions every solution must answer.

VOCES is how we decide what to build. Before any product, service, or partnership moves forward, it has to pass the same test. If it doesn't, it can be redesigned.

01

Does it preserve dignity?

Does it meet the person with respect, never reducing them to a diagnosis, age, or limitation?

02

Does it preserve identity?

Does it reinforce who the person is — their relationships, roles, history, and sense of self?

03

Does it reduce communication barriers?

Does it remove friction rather than asking the person to work harder to be understood?

04

Does it improve understanding?

Does it help people genuinely connect — to be heard, and to make sense of one another?

05

Does it foster belonging?

Does it help the person feel included, seen, and part of something — not set apart?

06

Does it strengthen meaningful human connection?

Does it deepen the relationships that matter most, rather than substituting for them?

If not, it can be redesigned.

First Flagship Innovation

MemoriGems®

Because connection is more than memory.

The first application of VOCES — not its endpoint. A voice-first platform that pairs familiar voices with meaningful images to prioritize emotional recognition over memory performance, preserving connection and dignity for people living with dementia and the families who love them.

Research & Evidence

Research before marketing. Humanity before technology.

Every framework, technology, and partnership at HuLux is grounded in evidence-informed principles drawn from emotional-memory and auditory-processing research.

Evidence-Informed Design

Built on research showing that emotional processing and familiar auditory pathways may remain meaningful even as memory changes.

Outcome Measurement

Studying emotional engagement and connection outcomes through caregiver experience and structured feedback.

Academic Partnerships

Collaborating with clinicians, researchers, and universities to advance the science and prove the impact.

Voice as a Cognitive Anchor: The VOCES Framework for Identity Preservation in Early Cognitive Decline

Lisette Diaz-Santiago · Independent Scholar
Manuscript Under Consideration · Dementia (SAGE)

The VOCES Framework introduces a human-centered approach exploring how familiar voice may serve as a cognitive and emotional anchor for identity preservation in early cognitive decline.

Drawing on research in auditory neuroscience, emotional memory, narrative identity, attachment theory, and person-centered dementia care, the manuscript proposes a conceptual framework intended to guide future research, innovation, and communication-centered interventions.

Rather than presenting original empirical findings, this work establishes the theoretical foundation for future validation studies. MemoriGems® is introduced as one practical application of the framework — a demonstration of how these principles may translate into real-world tools that support connection, dignity, and person-centered care.

The VOCES Research Program

Research begins with a simple question: How can communication better adapt to people, rather than expecting people to adapt to communication?

The VOCES Framework is an evolving, human-centered research program exploring how identity, communication, familiar voices, trust, and emotionally meaningful experiences shape understanding across healthcare, aging, caregiving, and relationships. Rather than focusing on a single technology, VOCES provides a theoretical foundation for designing systems that preserve dignity, strengthen communication, and foster meaningful human connection.

Current Applications

MemoriGems®

A voice-first framework supporting identity preservation and emotional connection for people living with dementia, their families, and care partners.

Tethra

A consent-first relationship platform exploring how intentional communication, trust, and shared understanding can strengthen healthy relationships through the principles of the VOCES Framework.
